  1. Designer is upgrading through the use of an executable patch. This
  2. method of upgrade allows the user to apply only the changes to an 
  3. existing DS40.EXE file and other files that have changed during this 
  4. upgrade cycle.

  6. To use this patch method you will need to have the .RTP and .RTD files
  7. in the same directory as PATCH.EXE. For the Designer directory patch
  8. the files needed are DS40A.RTP and DS40A.RTD along with PATCH.EXE.
  9. For the MGXLIBS directory patch the files needed are DS40LIBA.RTP 
  10. and DS40LIBA.RTD along with PATCH.EXE. Copy these files to a location 
  11. on your hard drive and follow the instructions below for command line 
  12. parameters to apply the patch. You will also need to know the fully 
  13. qualified path to your Designer 4.0 directory [for example: C:\DESIGNER] 
  14. and your MGXLIBS directory [for example: C:\MGXLIBS] for later use.

  16. From a DOS prompt [C:\>] change to the directory that you have copied 
  17. the .RTP and .RTD files. Using the command line example below change 
  18. the paths given with the paths to your directories.

  20. PATCH DS40A C:\DESIGNER

  22. This process may take several minutes to complete so please be patient.
  23. Once the Designer patch has completed you will need to apply the 
  24. libraries patch. Using the command line below, replace the path example
  25. with the path to your MGXLIBS directory.

  27. PATCH DS40LIBA C:\MGXLIBS
  28.  
  29. This process will take several minutes and also print several update 
  30. messages on screen.

  32. Once this process is complete you are ready to run Designer 4.0a.
